About

Autism what to do is a web resource for parents of Autistic children; particularly those parents whose child may have just received a diagnosis of Autism. If you're leveraging the internet to acquire information about available Autism treatments, you may feel overwhelmed or confused by all of the data that's out there.

The purpose of this site is to present data about some of the well known Autism treatments and illustrate the evidence, or lack of, supporting them as scientifically proven. Hopefully this can help parents in their quest to answer the important question of which treatment is right for my child? Most of the focus of the site is on Applied Behavior Analysis, or just ABA, because ABA based treatments to date are backed by the most scientific data to support their effectiveness.

About the author of the site; I'm not affiliated with any Autism treatment providers. I'm also not an expert in any of the Autism related fields of Behavior, Psychology or Neurology. I am however familiar with the devastation of initially hearing my child's diagnosis, and thinking "what now?". While I'm not an expert on Autism, at the time of writing the content for this site, I'd spent most of my available time over the prior years reading about Autism treatments and the deficits faced by people on the spectrum; and most importantly to me, teaching my son, with my teaching serving as a complement to his 40 hour per week ABA program from a professional treatment provider. Even though I'm not an expert, I can reference what the experts have researched and written, and this is presented throughout the site. If the site can help one family source effective treatment for their child with an ASD, then to me, the time that it's taken to construct the site will have been well worth it. If you feel that any of the data on the site is inaccurate, or have an idea for additional infomation that could be added to the site to help parents, please let me know through the contact link on the Home page.
